Sandra Wyatt is a brain tumor survivor and the founder of HOPE With Support. Sandra was diagnosed with multiple Meningioma brain tumors in December of 2002. She was a single mom of five (5) children and five (5) grandchildren. Sandra was treated at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland where they removed multiple tumors. She still has three (3) tumors today that were unable to be removed at that time.
Sandra and her children did not receive the continued emotional support they needed to help them through the changes and adjustments that had to be made after her surgery. Her desire is to help other brain tumor survivors and their families by providing them with the support that they need to live with this life changing event. Today Sandra speaks at events, conventions, and is on the Board of Directors and serves as Vice-President of HOPE With Support, Inc.
There are many common misconceptions about brain tumors. For example, survivors and their families often have the mistaken belief that non-malignant (or benign) brain tumors are inherently less injurious than malignant tumors. The reality is that all brain tumors can impact a person's quality of life and often require aggressive treatment.
Many people need continuous encouragement as they deal with the issues of this illness. That is the "HOPE" that our organization wants to provide. We are dedicated to helping Brain Tumor Survivors. Everyone needs encouragement when they receive a diagnosis like brain tumors. Sometimes this HOPE comes from your spouse or family. Sometimes it comes from close friends or co-workers. And sometimes it helps to have the support of other people who have been there, are "survivors", and have traveled the road you are about to take, or have taken.
As HOPE With Support moves forward with its mission, it is supported by a Board of Directors that supports Brain Tumor Awareness and volunteers their time to helping others with this disease. The directors are responsible for organizing support and ensuring that resources are properly managed. |
